Fitz Hugh Sound to Namu

Once again, we are in calm waters, and land is nearby! And that's "almost" sunshine on the island ahead.

Ah, the beautiful British Columbia coastline is becoming quite interesting, with layer after layer of hills receding into the distance.

A wider angle version of the same image. And the blurred ocean in the bottom of the image suggests we were back up to speed.

Namu

Namu is a deserted fishing village. Destroyed by fire in the 1960s, it was rebuilt, but then put out of business by low fish prices and high transportation costs. There is good fishing in the area, and other tourist activities, but it is now almost desereted, with just a few people living there.

Our Captain Nina stops by here to drop off clothes etc. to a couple of the inhabitants.

Namu as we are approaching.

A patch of sun on this tree covered little island, with Hunter Island in the background.

Captain Nina and First Mate Mike talk to the people waiting on the wharf. I didn't get a photo of them, unfortunately. They had a large dog, and Phrater and the Namu dog were quite excited to see each other, even though we did not come closer than this to the wharf.

The cannery is now succumbing to the weather, which I suspect is quite severe here during winter.
