Light aircraft must certainly be the transport of choice in Alaska, as it is in outback Australia. This plane has skis attached, but I expect when the ice melts on this lake, the skis are replaced by pontoons.

Bill McKinley advised us to travel up highway 3 until we came to the entrance to the McKinley Princess Lodge, located within Denali State Park (as opposed to Denali National Park). He promised excellent views of Mt. McKinley. So we followed his advice. The lodge was not open, as it closes for the winter. However, it was preparing to open, so the roads had been cleared of snow.

One of the lodge buildings, with Mt. McKinley and friends in the backgroud. Specifically, McKinley is just to the left of the tall tree in the right centre of the image.

Mt. McKinley. It's still about 40 miles (65km) away!

Still plenty of snow around the lodge.
