Early In St. Peter's Square

For the Canonisation Mass, we had seats in section 5, which is the area in the left semi-circular section of Bernini's colonnade. We had to supply our own seats, as only sections 1 - 4 have seats in them. And, of course, it meant we had to carry the seat for the rest of the day! Section 5 is on the south side of the square, and we were in shade all day. After a while, it became a little cool, and some sun would have been nice; alas the sun never quite reached our position.

Looking from the area we staked out towards the front of St. Peter's Basilica, and the altar which is under the red fringed canopy. Note the pink tinge to St. Peter's from the early morning sun. Note also the large TV screen at the front of the colonnade.
