After walking back to our hotel, we were all hot and thirsty. So we had a family drinking session in the courtyard. This was a very pleasant way to pass a warm afternoon and to catch up with this family assembly which has not been together for over 18 months.
As the afternoon progressed we again took our chances and rode
Metro to the Spanish Steps, where the usual crowd of tourists
were assembled. And some street entertainment, as shown better
here,
where a "Roman Legionary" is entertaining the crowd, or in this
case, is trying to get the dog's attention. Not very successfully.
Although in this photo, especially the
close-up,
the dog is paying more attention. A curious juxtaposition to see a
Roman soldier next to a mobile phone user. If only Caesar had a mobile
phone, he might not have been killed by Brutus!
This fountain, in the form of a boat, is also by Bellinni, and is
located at the bottom of the Spanish Steps.
The Trevi Fountain is just a few blocks away, so we headed over there.
This was about 7:30PM, a little early for Roman meal time, which
perhaps explains the large crowd. Well, that plus this being a well
known tourist attraction.
A closer view of the actual fountain part. On Mondays, the fountain
is drained while the coins thrown in are removed. This was not a Monday!
We then headed off to have dinner - eating at some little restaurant that we happened to pass, somewhere near here. And a very enjoyable meal it was too.
